I love sunrise, the play between light and shadow, rugged hillsides and sandy beaches.

Hi there, I’m Erica

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a drive to create. From sketching elaborate ‘storybooks’ at school, borrowing my dad’s camcorder as a teen and convincing my friends to act in my latest short film, studying photography and film at university, to the present day as a working photographer. Creation is at the heart of it all. My style of creation is deeply rooted in storytelling, thanks to my background as a filmmaker. Much of my photographic language is rooted in my lifelong love of cinema - framings, poses, my love of the small details and the importance of those precious in-between moments and gentle nuances - each frame part of a wider picture, the story of you.

As a partner and mother, I cannot help but see myself and my loved ones in the images I create. My photography is an extension of myself, and a little bit of my heart goes into each and every shoot.

Alongside my digital photography, I am passionate about working with analogue film. As a photography student, I spent hours in the darkroom perfecting my prints and developing roll after roll of film. I still develop my own film and always scan my negatives myself, using a technique to produce high quality digital images which I edit with the same care and precision as I do my digital photographs. I adore the nostalgic textures and colours that working with film provide, and the hands-on craftsmanship of loading and developing is a deeply meditative and tender process that I adore.

My greatest inspirations are cinema, the natural world, the curious and sometimes slightly macabre, and my beloved home country of Scotland.
